John Mayer – Tenth Row at the L.A. Forum!

John Mayer played just for Sarah and I (and about 20,000 other, less important folks) at the Los Angeles Forum on Saturday, September 14.

Sarah and I were fortunate enough to enjoy a show at the L.A. Forum on Saturday night. John Mayer was featured with no opening act. He played for over three hours and filled two full sets with a wide variety of his new hits, a few old stand-bys (like Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey, a favorite of mine), Edge of Desire, XO, and Neon.

His second set featured a track-for-track play of every song from the album Continuum. This was an honor to attend, as he had only once before played this album whole. Continuum debuted ten years ago and is considered Mayer’s most prolific album by many of his fans. It signals a shift in his transition from pop-star to seasoned musician and songwriter with songs like “Gravity”, “Dreaming with a Broken Heart”, and “Belief”; a song about the epidemic of an adherence to dogmatic behaviors around the world.

A Day in Beverly Hills

Sarah and I enjoyed a day browsing the lifestyle in Beverly Hills, California. We were in town for the John Mayer show that night and decided to life a day as high-society socialites. It wasn’t really to our taste, but it was a day of fun none the less…

The day began with a visit to the Urth Cafe; a contemporary cuisine bakery and coffee shop with a tilt towards the chic LA healthy and renewable lifestyle. The food was great, and the ambiance was progressive. We enjoyed a soundtrack which included (not making this up) Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture played with full orchestration, but with the lead on harmonica.

Next, we moved on to Rodeo Drive. The 100º sun was pressing down on us, so we took refuge on a bench near the Tiffany’s shop. Sarah let me know that she always wanted a specific necklace from there, so I had her point it out and we bought it for her! (Don’t worry, it really wasn’t very expensive!)

I noticed an IWC shop across the street, so we dropped in and I was allowed to try on a watch that I have been admiring for about five years. The IWC Pilot’s Timezoner is the most beautiful and functional mechanical watch I have seen for under $20,000. It is practical, stylish, and durable. I didn’t purchase it, but I was able to finally feel its weight on my wrist. Someday…

The day finished with a visit to The Grove market place and a drink at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where we were staying. It was a treat all around, but the best was yet to come. On to John Mayer!!!

A Great Day in San Francisco

Linh and I had planned a night in San Francisco to enjoy each others’ company and have a night on the town.  Unfortunately, it didn’t work out as Linh fell ill on Saturday, but I already had the room booked!

I changed the room to a dual queen room and called upon my Friend Mike to head up with me to enjoy a night of bar hopping! It was definitely a fun one, but I really missed my sweetheart!
